Robert Wauchope believed, as with Etowah Cord Marked, that this type is a unintentional decoration
He believed that the pots received these impressions while being hung in nets to dry before firing.
The evidence that he gave him is that some of the cord marked vessels were over smeared with clay apparently to hide the cord impressions, and that cord impressions are found over other Etowah designs.
Net marking on sand / grit-tempered pottery.
Sometime the cord impressions are found to be stamped over other Etowah designs.
Known vessel forms include deep conoidial open mouthed jars with slight shouldered and restricted necks.
Middle Mississippian, Etowah period.
Northwestern Georgia.
